Both tickets booked in Pattaya, Thailand by an Iranian man known only as Mr. Ali."

Although "Benjaporn Krutnait, owner of the Grand Horizon Travel agency (Thai travel agent in Pattaya, Thailand, who booked the tickets for the men) ... said she did not believe Ali (an Iranian, a long-term business contact) "was linked to terrorism, particularly as he had not specified booking the Kuala Lumpur-Beijing flight but had instead asked for the cheapest route to Europe. She said she was speaking about the case because she was concerned over the speculation about a terrorist attack and wanted the facts to be known."

    [excerpts from Haaretz on line]
I was already putting the above information together. Say, i am a wanted person by police or (Worse) fiscal authorities in the EU and i need to travel there (to visit family), yes then (and when smuggling or other illegal activities, like illegal immigration!) would someone take a stolen passport and use the cheapest possible flight from Kuala Lumpur to Europe. I checked some weeks ago, and most flights from EU to SE Asia are 100-200 Euros cheaper with flights via China (China Southern Airlines or code shared flights). So probably this Mr Ali is a business facilitator to buy tickets for some guys who did not or could not buy the tickets in person. Tickets were also paid in cash.

What is more frightening is that a flight disappears, 40 minutes in flight and just RIGHT after arriving at Flight Level. Sudden loss means an explosion or explosive decompression. Most other scenarios donot explain sudden loss on radar, but then most often we cannot imagine what has tragically happened unless the flight recorders are retrieved...

    • From all the data this far, what has struck me much more than some people traveling on false passports (i live in Europe, we have a problem with people trafficking, illegal immigration even illegal cross bordering between EU countries lacking any customs....) is the fact that the captain on this flight had a hobby to use flight simulators even in his free time. Depending on home situations and profiles this can mean just nothing (someone being very good at his job) or can mean everything (someone with extreme knowledge to use the plane in any way possible).

According to details here i understand the radar systems on the coastline cannot track planes that are flying lower than FL because of their max range and bending of the earth, so flying lower means you are invisible for radar. Probably there are no navy vessels in that sea normally that track flights. Also there was a problem with radio contact, could that be due to flying at a lower level due to issues? Say if you declare an emergency but you are to far from anyone or any plane to be heared, is that possible?

Could a radar jammer be involved?
But satellite would of picked it up right?

        Curious.

          Totally agree about the tickets.
About the lack of signals, I fear the plane wasn't able to glide anyway.
          Strange the fact of cell-phones...

My understanding is that he was qualified to instruct on simulator training, ALL pilots have to undergo simulator training, it is NOT the same as playing on a computer, these are million pound cockpit simulators and only the best get to be instructors...

            • He had a home flight simulator. Photo on it on this page.
When not flying his Boeing 777, he still flies a Boeing 777 at home

              • if the plane is not at the site of crash. it definitely went somewhere else. like their radar transpodondent thing did not work anymore and you couldn't see that the plane was flown elsewhere manually by the pilot or someone else. if you just search one small area you will never find the plane. you need to increase your radius of search. tell the whole world to look for the plane it may be lying on some remote island or land by now and people are starving to death maybe stranded or not.

The source said U.S. satellite coverage of the region is thorough." At the bottom of the story published yesterday.

                    • Apparently there are quite a few abandoned airstrips in Vietnam that could have been made ready to use.

China's defence ministry will redeploy 10 satellites to join the hunt for the Malaysia Airlines jet that disappeared on Saturday with 239 people on board after three days of fruitless searching.

MH370: Stolen passport no terror link – IGP
KUALA LUMPUR: One of the two passengers who had boarded the MH370 flight using stolen passports has been identified as an Iranian man who is “not likely to be a member of any terrorist group”.

19-year-old “Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad”, is also believed to be travelling to Germany where he is hoping to seek asylum.

“We have been checking his background. We have also compared his profile with our counterparts from other countries. We believe he is not likely to be a member of any terrorist group,” said Khalid.

At a press conference at 3pm Tuesday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that the Iranian has used the passport of Austrian Christian Kozel which had been confirmed as stolen in Phuket, Thailand.

Khalid said that police were still investigating the other passenger using another stolen passport, listed under the name Luigi Maraldi of Italy.

Previously, both men had reported their passports stolen in Thailand over the past two years. It was also reported that the two were on their way to Amsterdam.

“You ask me how I know he wanted to migrate to Germany? We are in contact with his mother, she was expecting him to arrive in Frankfurt, that is why we knew he was the one,” he said, adding that the Pouria's mother was aware he was using a false passport.

If noting is visible on imagery, could the plane had stalled mid air and plunged directly into the sea bed due to some structural failure(tail or wing ).Some report i read mentioned that the flight had some slight problem in wing which was fixed and certified to fly.any possibility of wing fracture .

Is it not possible to design some high pressure floating material in modern jet liners with a small hole in it which will suck water incase if a plane plunges into water and starts to float so that it will be easy to search for wreckage around this area.

I am sure it is very difficult time for investigators and pray for the passengers on board and their families.Hope to get some clue on this missing flight as early as possible.

Life vest gets inflated only when passengers pulls and in this case it seems that there is not even a single life rest that is visualised which suggests that something serious had happen with no time to pull out.

                            • In one of the news i read thatt One other unnamed pilot was able to establish contact with the MH370 at the request of vietnam aTC for a brief period of time and line was very disturbing-static and he was able to hear some mumble voice which he suspect to be the co-pilot.During this time this pilot was deep into the vietnam air space and mh370 just made 1 min into vietnam air space so frquency was not a problem .Pilot could have made a distress call pam -pam may day on an emergency frequency which near by flyging plane or vessels below the sea could also have heared and they could have reported the same to atc to handle emergency situation.

In this case it adds to worry that the pilot had not made any emergency distress calls or used other means to communicate because he would have got ample time even if someone is tryg to break thru cockpit or if it has lost engine the flight would be able to glide thru for some time during which he could have made an alert.

somethg serious has occured suddenly and the answer to the mystery can be found only if authorities are able to find wreckage and the main balck box which will be able to pick signals even under water for a period of 60 days(I assume it is 60 days)

Lets hope that we get answer to this mystery soon .

He's claming that suddenly the flight path was altered by someone (Flightradar24?) but if you look closely at the left colomn with the flight data then he's showing aircraft registerd M9-MRQ and NOT 9M-MRO
                                Cheers
Yes agree. Idiot. He hasn't noted that the 9M-MRQ track is from the following day. BUT the interesting thing is, that the flight also disappeared from FR24 at about the same location as M9-MRO (then picked up again further north). This indicates that the loss of contact could be due to FR24 iffy coverage and maybe not because the transponder stopped transmitting.
