    Watchdog grounds airline

Eight of Brindabella's 10 planes have been grounded. Source: News Limited

TROUBLED airline Brindabella suspended all services yesterday after the national aviation watchdog grounded eight of its 10-strong fleet.

The Canberra-based airline closed its office at 4pm before issuing a statement at 5pm to declare it would no longer be taking reservations.

Qantas immediately announced it would offer affected Brindabella customers special fares.

The Civil Aviation and Safety Authority (CASE) (Sic- it's CASA) grounded four planes due to overdue engine inspections. Two were put back into circulation, only for CASA to ground a further six last week.

In a statement on its web page, Brindabella declared the suspension of services as "temporary". However, aviation industry sources claim the financial impact of the groundings could result in the airline being placed into administration.

Brindabella suspends services, calls in receivers'

This is beginning to sound remarkably similar to Ansett Airlines.

Brindabella Airlines in receivership, flights suspended

    further news;

BRINDABELLA Airlines has been put into receivership and its flights suspended indefinitely after much of its fleet was grounded for failing to do timely safety checks.

The move affects 140 jobs and the Christmas travel plans of people across regional NSW who had booked on the airline's up to 250 weekly flights.

More aussies out of work and peoples holiday plans in ruin.

My question is this, Will Qantas be next?

        Mike,

They probably wont be able to do it in their own right without government subsidies- I'll keep an eye on it. I dont know at this stage if REX is interested, or in the financial position to do so. Personally, I cant see anyone wanting to jump into the regional airline sector in a hurry the way it stands at the moment. Most routes have been marginal at best (hence the position in which Brindabella found iteslf).

        Regards,
        Gregg

          Mike,

Since Christmas is just at the corner, FR24 should take over and operate it as " FR24 Airlines ".
