  • US Government Shutdown Hits Business Aviation Hard

During day two of the U.S. government shutdown, 15,000 FAA employees were still off the job on furlough and the business aviation community appears to have found the early impact of the closure to be greater than anticipated with disruption to several important FAA functions that were not impacted by previous Federal government shutdowns. While the agency has deemed some 30,000 employees as essential, keeping them on the job, a large portion of this workforce is providing air traffic control services, meaning many other FAA services are on hold until the budget impasse in Congress is resolved.

PH aviation status seen in limbo as US shuts down

The anticipated upgrade in the country’s aviation status, to be determined by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), may be delayed due to the “shutdown” of the US government, said a Philippine aviation expert.
But a ranking official of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said the agency is not yet concerned at this time as it continues to await directions from the FAA.

Government Shutdown Halts Aircraft Sales Transactions

The “partial” U.S. government shutdown that began on Tuesday as a result of a congressional budget impasse has had a more profound effect on business aviation than initially anticipated by industry watchers. What caught observers, including GAMA, off guard was the closure of the aircraft registration office in Oklahoma City, a move that has paralyzed both new and pre-owned aircraft sales transactions.
“Even the FAA staff at the Oklahoma City office didn’t know ahead of time that they were being shut down, so they were surprised, too,” Charles “Bucky” Oliver, founder and chairman of aircraft sales brokerage firm Jetcraft, told AIN. “Essential services were supposed to be exempt from the shutdown, but the problem is the interpretation of ‘essential.’”

I heard that ATC will still be paid ... but their pay will be delayed. I feel sorry for anyone in this position. People have bills to pay and it's not always easy when you're not being paid.
