To Err is to be Human
I think you are being a little to harsh here, to err is to be human and I hate to think how many times we have all accidently hit a wrong key on an iPad, after all, it does not have very large on-screen keys and unless both Pilot and Co-Pilot are math geniuses, very few people would spot such a mistake as they not able to look at a figure and know instantly if it is correct or not.
We have become so used to technology, we expect it to be accurate, however, a computerised device is only as good as the data it is given, hence my argument against 'man-made' climate change as dependent upon the data given, you can get the software to spit out any old tosh (My PhD is in Human and Computer Interaction).
Whilst I appreciate in their jobs, lives are on the line, until the airlines give them a fool proof system, mistakes will happen and in this day and age of technology with Wireless and Blu-Tooth connections, I still do not understand why this calculation are NOT automatic, so when the cargo is weighed, it will send the data to the aircraft, same as can be done the 'average' passenger weight and even the outside temperature - after all, this is NOT rocket science calculations, it is so basic...
