i just filmed a plane pass me in cambridge england going north west, by the time my view was blocked by a tree it was 63 miles away, proof here : VQ BWY Silk Way West Airlines Boeing 747 Great Contrail seen Cambridge UK 13may2020 735p HHN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQmdHzWqwhA
now the earth is curved and lets say the average height of a contrail is 36,000 feet, how would any one go about calculating how far in theory it would be possible to see the plane contrail from ? my guess is it would be possible to see a plane with your eyes at 36,000 feet from 90 to 100 miles away if it was leaving a decent sized contrail .
one other example i filmed : N710CK Kalitta Air Boeing 747 4B5F contrail 58 miles away wow seen Cambridge UK 22apr2020 735p https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNwQ_VrHiRY
