Air India fails to gain entry into Star Alliance
MUMBAI: A powerful global network of airline firms has declined to accept Air India as a member dealing a blow to the national carrier's plans of flying more passengers to more international destinations. Star Alliance, a 27-airline network which flies to 1,185 airports in 185 countries, formally barred Air India's admission on Sunday saying that the domestic airline has not fulfilled certain conditions. Air India and Star Alliance had signed a memorandum of understanding in 2007 under which the former agreed to fulfill some conditions to facilitate its induction.

Oil firms stop fuel supply to Air India
State-owned oil firms on Wednesday halted jet fuel supplies to cash-strapped Air India for non- payment of dues leading to disruption of some of its flights after cheques of the national carrier bounced.
The Aviation Turbine Fuel(ATF) supplies were resumed after Air India agreed to make the payments tomorrow to the oil companies following hectic parleys by Civil Aviation and Petroleum ministries to find a solution.

Aviation ministry official named new chairman: Air India
State-run Air India said the government has appointed Rohit Nandan, a joint secretary in the ministry of civil aviation, as the ailing carrier's new chairman and managing director.
Rescuers early Sunday managed to pull out two injured people, including an 8-year-old girl and rushed them to a nearby hospital.

Air India employees hail new managers
Mumbai: Employees of the beleaguered state-run carrier Air India are upbeat about a new management taking over the reins and hope a sincere effort will be made to lift the cash-strapped and mismanaged company out of its abyss.
The government has yet to confirm the appointment of Civil Aviation Secretary Nasim Zaidi as chairman and Joint Secretary Rohit Nandan as managing director of Air India to replace the present chairman and Managing Director Arvind Jadhav who has been removed.
