As you are in Sheffield, Manchester would be a good choice, most days are good for spotting as its a busy Airport.

        Hi Stuart,
Although I live "darn sarff", I often visit Manchester. The best spot is the one marked 'G' on the guide. When the southern runway is in operation, some aircraft are approx 130 yards away, and others can be 300 to 400 yards away, depending on which taxiway they use.
Here are some examples of aircraft using the southern runway:
        http://www.kelvindavies.co.uk/kelvin...mage_id=14647: Focal length 75mm
        http://www.kelvindavies.co.uk/kelvin...mage_id=15028: Focal length 200mm
        http://www.kelvindavies.co.uk/kelvin...mage_id=14934: Focal length 90mm

Even when that runway is closed, you can still get some good shots on the distant runway. These examples are aircraft using the northern runway but taken from the same spot as the others:
        http://www.kelvindavies.co.uk/kelvin...mage_id=15021: Focal length 225mm
        http://www.kelvindavies.co.uk/kelvin...mage_id=15024: Focal length 135mm
        http://www.kelvindavies.co.uk/kelvin...mage_id=15029: Focal length 200mm
        Cheers

            You are welcome Stuart.
The BBC weather forecast is hinting that Tuesday morning might be sunny. If the Monday night forecast confirms that, I may well be there Tuesday morning. If it works out and you fancy it, we could meet up and I would be glad to show you what's what.
            Cheers

By the way Stuart, I forgot to mention; you have a neighbour who also takes photos at Manchester.
When I was there on 2nd Jan, I was chatting with a bloke from Rotherham.
Bloke from Rotherham; if you are reading this, maybe you can contact Stuart and giver him some help!
