  • 2011 Air Mobility Command Units - 2011 Antartic Season

USAF C17 has been making frequent flights to Antartica this past 2 weeks ex NZCH, Also beginning to see fleet of C130s from USAF/New York Air Guard

On saturday the start of season C17 was due for maintenance and traded places with 08-8192

Today C130 83-0491 (to become season fixture) Followed C17 08-8192 down, and C130 83-0490 arrived from PagoPago to prepare for its season later in the day.

2 further C130s and a C5 are possibly due this week. Will try to capture those also.

C5 RCH5E6 arrived from Honolulu at around 0140 local today.

Quite the arrangement on the 'Ice Ramp' With 3 C130 Ski units, C17 and now the C5

Tower broadcast "well done" when they managed to park between them all after arriving this morning.

Tonight (13-1-12) C130 83-0490 arrived from antartica as SKIER25 with 8 Korean sailors airlifted onboard with varying medical requirements after a fire onboard their fishing vessel.

New Zealand officials confirm three Vietnamese crewmen died when a South Korean fishing boat caught fire in Antarctica, as a US vessel treats injured crew.
