          • AIR_UK,

Big image of the 777 with your new set-up?
Have you tried early morning or evening (like stifflord) - low sun - for your photos?

              Hi to you,
I use a Skywatcher scope-8inch/1200mm with a canon 450+ a BARLOW LENS,-----------The KLM AIRBUS A330 was taken on a day i had clean sky--ie no hazy or atmospheric distortion.-----I have been taking photos of contrails for about 3 years now and on some days it is very rewarding(mostly in the winter).
It takes practice and a lot of time + a lot has to do with the SKY to get good results.

              All the best

Hi Mike, the picture was taken yesterday afternoon. It flew directly over head but not much if any contrail due to the conditions.
A week of bad weather and constant overcast conditions has been very frustrating.
I was also up at 05:00 this morning to catch the long haul flights into europe.
I have a similar setup as stifflord,Skywatcher reflector telescope 10" mirror with a 1200mm focal length, using a TeleVue Powermate x 2 (Barlow type Lens)doubles the focal length producing huge magnification, however getting everything right is no easy task.

                • Hello A330A340
I have the same setup as you but have the 10" mirror model.I have been watching aircraft prodcuing contrails for years but only recently started taking photos of them.Looking forward to winter,"dare I say it" when weather conditions should be perfect.
