  • CANON SX 620

I am very new to this site, and want to buy a canon sx620 to take photos of planes passing overhead at about 1000 feet to land or taking off at a height between 5000 and 6000 feet. I live near the airport. Is the sx620 good enough? I realise it is only a point and shoot camera but it has 25 X optical zoom. Also any help with settings like shutter speed and ISO would be very appreciated.

    Thanks a lot to everyone.

Hello - I have the Canon SX50 HS 50x optical zoom with the option to use the "digital zoom option" but I don't use this option as it doesn't really help in terms of improvement to image quality.
The Canon X620 may be ok for your needs based on the height of the planes that you intend to photograph. Use a tripod, set the camera to TV, ISO 100 to start with and set the shutter speed to 1/400 as a starting point. I'm looking to buy the Nikon P1000 that has 125 x optical zoom, but none of the UK dealers have any in stock right now.
