Ryanair aborted landing and did a go around at liverpool

On the 6/7/10 my partner boarded Ryanair FR7624 at Bremen 12:30pm uk time. The flight went fine up until the final approach to Liverpool. Approx. 2 miles from landing the aircraft had descended to 1000 feet. Just as it crossed the River Mersey it started to climb. ( As i was on my way to pick her up from the Airport i witnessed this myself as the road to the Airport gives a very good view of the approach. By the time it reached the start of runway27 it had reached 1500 feet then by the end of the runway it was at 2000 feet. As the Aircraft headed over the Wirral the Crew announced there was a fire on Runway . My partner said one German passenger who was already acting very nervous, looked very scarred. It had me worried and i was'nt on the plane. The Aircraft climbed to a holding altitude of 5000 feet and continued 15 miles out over the Irish Sea and then turned right to start heading to the Airport. It landed safely 17 minutes later at 14:15. If anyone knows anything more please let me know. All for now.

Sounds like a typical "Go Around" due to unavailable runway.

It's happened to me a few times on Luton approach when a back-tracking aircraft has been slow to clear the runway. Other times when runway was not visible at decision height.

I had to exercise a Go Around myself on approach to Sibson airfield in a Cessna 152 when a student parachutist appeared to be heading straight for the runway!

I work at LPL and quite a few Ryanair flights have 'go arounds' from what i hear from pilots of the winglet 737-800 they are prone to wind shear warnings.. which often requires 'a go around' nothing to do with a fire on the runway thats for sure..

Hi Amsterdam, i have checked the wind speed for the 6/7/10 and it's maximum speed was about 20 mph. According to http://www.b737.org.uk/winglets.htm the B737 with winglets is ok with crosswinds up to 40 mph. If you hear anything on the Grapevine please let me know.
