I don't understand what the problems is.
Are you trying to upload something or download something?
    When does the problems occur?
If it is on Startup have you tried running in Safe Mode?

Isn't ntvdm.exe the "virtual dos machine" in Windows? I seem to recall using it to run 16 bit applications in XP a long long time ago. I'm willing to bet that it has changed alot since XP though.

Try running the thing in XP compatibility mode first. If that doesn't work you may have to run it in "Windows XP Mode". Only available for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate editions though.
